As most of you know, I’m pretty into GHK (Genesis-Hyundai-Kia) and like many fans of a specific brand I enjoy speculating! I’m trying to figure out where the Genesis brand will actually be situated within the US market. Doing this usually gives clues as to what GHK is probably working on (definitely an engine above the 420hp Tau V8). We’ll see that engine in a concept car probably 18 months before it makes its way into production, so let’s speculate on pricing the G90 for the US market while we wait on that engine!

*The US will NOT be getting the 3.8L base model of the G90. Instead we get the new 3.3T V6 and the good old 5.0L Tau V8. All models will have HTRAC available.

3.3T (365hp and 376lb-ft)

2016 LS460 L (386hp) $78,820

2017 740i (320hp) $81,300

2016 A8L 3.0T (333hp) $81,500

2016 XJL Portfolio (340hp) $83,200

This means the base model will probably start between the current Equus Signature which starts at $61,500 and the Equus Ultimate which starts at $68,750. My guess would be $66,000 . So it will still be a bargain! However, Genesis will be giving you a larger car with less power and a downsized engine compared to its predecessor. This shows the new found premium for the badge.

5.0L (420hp and 383lb-ft)

2016 A8L 4.0T Sport (450hp) $90,500

2017 750i (445hp) $94,400

2016 XJL Supercharged (470hp) $95,000

2016 S550 (449hp) $95,650

As you can see, the Genesis flagship is underpowered in comparison to these rivals (Lexus doesn’t make an LS that competes in this segment, and this is when the S-Class enters the US market). Consider the V8 to be a feature rather than a model change in this case. I would expect a $15,000 discount compared to the competition to make up for the performance disadvantage. That means around $75,000 to get into the 5.0L model.

I would expect HTRAC (Rear-biased AWD system) to be a little above a $2,000 premium over the RWD models and to be available with both engines. My bet is that a fully loaded G90 with the 5.0L will be just under the $92,000 mark. This way you can get a fully equipped G90 for the price of a poverty pack S-Class. Also remember that there is a longer wheelbase version that may be coming to the US as well which will obviously have the 5.0L standard and likely push the fully loaded price to just barely over $100k .

Now, after writing out all my speculations in the post above, I decided to check out the Korean Genesis Motors Website. SWEET JUMBA LUMBA this thing is way more expensive than I thought!!

3.3T Luxury - $64,776

HTRAC - $2,100

Sunroof - $675

SmartSense Package - $2525

(???) Package - $1,680

3.3T Premium - $78,228

Sunroof - $675

Signature Design Selection - $3,200

Rear Seat Dual Monitor - $2,100

Rear Comfort Package - $2,100

3.3T Prestige - $93,394

Sunroof - $675

VIP Package - $2,525

5.0L Prestige - $98,450

Sunroof - $675

VIP Package - $2,525

5.0L Limousine Prestige - $128,695

VIP Package - $2,690

Not “ridiculous” compared to the competition, but definitely surprising if this basic pricing scheme is the same as the US. I have a feeling they will de-content the G90 quite a bit to make it substantially cheaper (which is very typical since as the cars get more expensive, Hyundai takes more an more out of the models before selling them in the US). Yes, the US actually gets worse versions of Hyundai-Kia models, but that’s only because we refuse to pay for better cars!

I’m going to continue working on that full US Genesis Lineup Speculation. If you need me, I’ll be hoping these first round Genesis products depreciate like gum in a glue factory.

It’s awesome to see someone pumped on this stuff. I’ve seen a Long-Range Product Plan that truly would Wobble your Mind. ;) A month in and it’s been very cool.

I hope it isn’t priced that high. I quite like the G90 after seeing a few.

Of course, you could wait a year and have it be half price.

That’s the hope! Though 50% off $90k is still $20k outside my “hey, I could own that maybe one day” range!
